The Cardinal Newman Boys Lacrosse team continues their dominant season, improving to an impressive 12-1 overall record with a resounding 18-1 victory over Vintage High School on Wednesday night. The game, played at Memorial Stadium in Napa, was another showcase of the Cardinals' potent offense and impenetrable defense.

Last Night's Highlights

The Cardinals wasted no time asserting their dominance, with junior Griffin Lewis igniting the offense by scoring three goals in the first quarter alone. The early outburst set the tone for a game that saw contributions from multiple players across the roster. The defense, led by senior goalkeeper Enzo Vallee, held Vintage to just one goal, continuing their season-long trend of stifling opposing offenses.

Upcoming Key Match-ups

With their latest victory, the Cardinals shift their focus to two critical upcoming games as they aim to secure their first-ever Vine Valley Athletic League (VVAL) title:

  • April 14th, Away game vs Sonoma Academy.  The Coyotes are having a good season and are always tough to play at Chris Ziemer Stadium.
  • April 25th: A home game versus Casa Grande High School. Casa Grande has been a strong contender this season, and this game could determine the league championship.

Historic Season in the Making

Cardinal Newman has outscored opponents 169-54 this season, boasting a staggering +115 goal differential. Senior Roger Muckenfuss continues to lead the team in scoring, averaging 3.7 goals per game, while junior Sam Keating has been a consistent playmaker, averaging 2.1 assists per game. Freshman Adeeb "Debo" Mughannam and senior Eamon Kelley have also made significant offensive contributions, highlighting the depth and balance of the roster.

Pursuit of Glory

As the Cardinals march toward their first-ever Vine Valley League title and a deep run in the NCS playoffs, the team remains focused and determined. With strong leadership from their seniors and new head coach Jake Eide, Cardinal Newman is poised to make history and cement their legacy as one of the best teams in the program's history.

Coach Eide praises the total contribution from all the players, "It has been full effort, senior to freshman everyone wants everyone to succeed and grow. Hours of work after and before practice."

Fans are encouraged to rally behind the team as they prepare for these pivotal match-ups and continue their journey through a truly amazing season.
