Softball advances to NBL Playoff Final

The Cardinal Newman Softball Team scored 5 runs in the bottom of the first and held Windsor in check in route to a 6-1 victory in the NBL playoffs first round.  Callie Howard pitched well for the Cardinals holding the Jaguars to just one run on 5 hits.  She struck out 3 in earning her 8th win of the year.

Newman rallied with 2 outs in the first taking advantage of 6 walks and an error issued by Windsor.  Ava Walters singled in the inning to drive in the 2nd run but that was the only hit in the inning.

Newman added a run in the 6th.  After Christell McCormick singled to lead off the inning, Sofia Esposti singled as well.  Then Tori Leighton doubled to centerfield to drive in McCormick and complete the scoring.

Leighton finished the day 1 for 1 with 3 walks, 2 RBI and 1 run scored.  Esposti went 2 for 2 with a walk for the Cardinals.

Newman will play number 1 seed Rancho Cotate on Thursday for the playoff championship in Rohnet Park.
