The Cardinal Newman softball team rallied for 5 runs in the 3rd inning to take a 6-3 lead, then added 2 in the 4th and 1 in the 5th, after Windsor tied the game at 8 all, to secure an exciting 9-8 victory over the Jaguars at home. The offense was fueled by the long ball as Newman hit 4 homers, 2 by
Paytin Salfi, and 1 each by
Tori Leighton and
Christell McCormick.
Salfi also came on in relief to pitch the final 2 innings to nail down the win.
Francesca Hart had 3 hits on the day and 3 RBI as well for the Cardinals. Salfi gave up just 1 hit and struck out 2 to record the final 6 outs shutting out Windsor in the 6th and 7th.
7 of CN's 9 hits were for extra bases.
Newman is now 3-2 on the year and visits Rancho Cotate next Tuesday afternoon.
