Cardinal Newman Football has hired Ryan Crowe, a championship-winning coach who most recently helped Santa Margarita Catholic capture the CIF Open Division State Championship and finish No. 4 in the national rankings. Ryan will be the Defensive Coodinator for Newman Football and serve as an Associate Athletic Director.

Coaching Background

Crowe joins the Cardinals after spending the 2025 season at Santa Margarita Catholic High School, where he coached the safeties on a team that captured the CIF Open Division State Championship and finished the season ranked No. 4 nationally. Two of his starting safeties, Logan Hirou and Siua Holani, went on to earn scholarships to UCLA and Sacramento State.

Prior to coaching the Eagles' state championship secondary, Crowe served as head coach of Santa Margarita's freshman team in 2024, leading the program to a Trinity League championship while also working with the varsity team's outside linebackers.

Crowe's coaching journey has included successful stops in both California and Idaho. He served as Defensive Coordinator at Rigby High School in Idaho, one of the state's premier programs and the 2022 Class 5A state champion. During the spring season, he also helped Santa Margarita's baseball program capture the first state championship in school history.

A graduate of San Juan Hills High School, Crowe spent six seasons coaching football at his alma mater, helping build the Stallions into a championship program that won the CIF Southern Section title in 2019.

Playing Career

As a player, Crowe was a standout two-sport athlete at San Juan Hills and helped lead the baseball team to its first playoff appearance in school history. He continued his baseball career at the collegiate level, first at Santa Barbara City College before earning a Gold Glove and NAIA All-American honors as a catcher at Westmont College. Crowe concluded his playing career at Hope International University, helping the Royals win a Golden State Athletic Conference championship in 2019.

Coaching Impact

Now joining Head Coach Kenny McMillan's staff as Defensive Coordinator, Crowe brings extensive experience in player development, championship culture, and program building. His background coaching at nationally ranked programs and mentoring athletes who have advanced to the collegiate level will be a valuable asset for Cardinal Newman Football.

"We are excited to welcome Ryan to Cardinal Newman," said McMillan. "He has coached at the highest levels of high school football, understands what championship programs look like, and shares our commitment to developing young men of character. He will make an immediate impact on our players and our program."

With experience at state championship programs, a strong football background, and a passion for developing student-athletes, Ryan Crowe adds another impressive piece to a Cardinal Newman coaching staff preparing for the 2026 season and beyond.
