SANTA ROSA, CA — Cardinal Newman High School has announced the appointment of Kenny McMillan as the next head coach of its football program, ushering in a new chapter for the Cardinals ahead of the 2026 season.
McMillan, who currently serves as the school's Associate Athletic Director, Wide Receivers Coach, and Co-Offensive Coordinator, steps into the role with a deep understanding of the program and its culture. A Bay Area native and Serra High School graduate, McMillan brings a strong background in player development and leadership at both the high school and collegiate levels.

A graduate of Cal Poly with a degree in Kinesiology, McMillan previously coached at Cal Poly from 2018–2019 before spending five seasons at Santa Margarita Catholic High School. During his time there, he coached running backs and served as head coach for both the freshman and junior varsity programs.

Joining McMillan on the staff is Sean Embree, who will serve as Associate Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator. Embree brings extensive experience at the collegiate, professional, and international levels, including a National Championship as a player at the University of Colorado and coaching experience in the NFL with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He also spent several years as a head coach and general manager in European professional leagues and most recently served as Associate Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator at Santa Margarita.
Cardinal Newman Athletic Director Monica Mertle expressed confidence in the program's new leadership.

"We are confident that this team will continue the proud tradition of excellence and integrity on and off the field."
The transition follows the departure of Frank McManus, who leaves the program to pursue a professional opportunity outside of coaching. Cardinal Newman extends its gratitude to McManus for his dedication and contributions to the football program.
With a strong foundation in place, the Cardinals look forward to continued success under McMillan's leadership as the program prepares for the upcoming season.
