SONOMA, CA — The Cardinal Newman girls' lacrosse team extended its winning streak to four games Tuesday night, securing a 14-9 victory over Sonoma Valley in their first league road match-up of the season. The win improves Newman's record to 4-2 overall and 4-0 in Vine Valley League play.

Junior Reagan McIntosh led the Cardinals' offense with an outstanding eight-goal performance, while freshman Curren Muckenfuss added four goals. Sophomore Ava Woods and junior Lorelei Stuhmuller each contributed a goal as well.

Newman controlled the game early, taking a 3-1 lead after the first quarter. Though Sonoma Valley stayed within striking distance, the Cardinals maintained their edge throughout, leading 7-5 at halftime and 9-6 after three quarters. A strong final period saw Newman outscore the Dragons 5-3 to seal the win.

A major factor in Newman's victory was their dominance in the draw circle, where they won 14 draws compared to Sonoma Valley's seven. They also out-shot the Dragons 24-17, generating more offensive opportunities throughout the game.

Head coach Taylor Hextrum credited the team's fight and leadership, particularly from captains Bianca and Reagan McIntosh.

"First league game on the road, all Newman players showed up to battle!  Going into the game, on paper, we were evenly matched. The girls proved themselves to be great lacrosse players from start to end. We worked for the win," Hextrum said.

With the victory, Cardinal Newman remains undefeated in Vine Valley League play, looking to continue their momentum as the season progresses.
