Rohnert Park, CA - The Cardinal Newman Girls took care the Montgomery Vikings on Saturday night in the NBL tourney Finale. The win marks 117 straight league wins and the 7th NBL Tourney Championship in a row. The tourney resumed this year after a 2 year hiatus due to covid.
Montgomery scored first and led 4-0 early on but the Cardinals went on a 18-0 run.
Kate Schat was hot from the outside hitting four 3s in the first half and finished the half with over 20 points.
Julia Brunetti led the way defensively with several steals which led to transition baskets.
Leah Mauritson played well off the bench for the Cardinals hitting 3s and playing good defense.
CN led 38-13 at the break and continued play well in the second half. It was 60-23 after 3 and the running clock was in order for the final 8 minute.
Newman is now 22-6 on the year and has been rewarded with the number 3 seed in the Open Division. They remain the only team from Sonoma County Boys or Girls to to placed in the Open Division.
Heritage, led by McDonalds All-American Amanda Muse, will be their first opponent on Thursday Night at 7 PM in the John Fitzgerald Gymnasium.
