Ukiah, Ca - The Cardinal Newman Boys Basketball team extended their unbeaten streak to 17-0 with a tough road win 49-38 in Ukiah.  Always a tough place to play, Ukiah held Newman in check in a low scoring first quarter.  The Cardinals hit a few shots at the end of the period to make it 11-6 after one.

Newman stretched the lead to double digits in the second quarter as Andrew Krilich and Sam Cline carried the load offensively. 

Krillich hit a 3 to begin the 3rd quarter to give CN its biggest lead of the night at 15.

The lead remained in double digits until the 4th as Ukiah began to chip away and took advantage of some opportunities to cut into the lead.

With about 5 minutes to play, Sam Cline left the game with a leg injury and the Wildcats pulled to within 5 with 2 minutes to play.  Then Vero Poueu made a big play with an offensive rebound and put back to get the lead back to 7.  Drew Krilich iced the game at the free throw line with several clutch makes and finished the night 11 for 11 at the line.

Coach Travis Taylor pointed out the great job Gavin Vogensen did defensively on Ukiah leading scorer Marcus Fenk, holding him 11 points under his average on the night.

The Cardinals host Santa Rosa at 8 PM Tuesday night.
