The Cardinal Newman basketball team won their first two games of the year. They knocked off American Canyon 64-46 in the season opener. Sam Cline and Vero Poueu lead teh way on offense with 25 and 12 points each.
Then on Saturday, they defeated Terra Linda . The Cardinals trailed by 1 after 1 but led by Aidan Mclaughlin, who came in off the bench and sparked the defense, Newman took over the game.
The defense was key but on the offensive side Newman began to share the ball and work for good shots against the Trojan's trap.
San Cline hit a team high 6 - 3s and finished with 32 points, while Gavin Vogensen, coming back from an injured hand contributed 10 rebounds. Drew Krilich hit 2 - 3s and finished with 8 points in the victory.
The Cardinals will travel to Kentfield to take on Marin Catholic this week and are gearing up to host the annual Rose City Tournament the following weekend.
