Healdsburg, Ca- The CN Women's Tennis Team closed out their North Bay League play with a 6-1 win at Healdsburg High School to finish 16-2 in league and 2nd in NBL standings behind undefeated Maria Carrillo.
The Cardinals (16-3 overall) got early wins from the top two singles spots from seniors
Kaylin Smith and Izzy Blakely winning in straight sets at #1 and #2 positions respectively.
The Greyhounds earned a point at #3 singles as Cardinal freshman, Liz Negri, lost a tough battle to Healdsburg's Meher Dhiman, 6-4, 6-2. Junior
Suzanna Hextrum controlled the #4 singles match from the start, winning 6-3, 6-1.
The Cardinals doubles teams swept all 3 doubles matches to lock up the 6-1 win. Doubles team winners included
Tatum Candelario &
Hannah Salisbury at #1, Cat Coleman and
Makena Mwiti at #2 and
Isabella Finnerty and
Alena Bardashova at #3.
Exhibition winners included
Olivia Stevens,
Taiten Kolpin, Gabby Macias,
Christell McCormick,
Hayley Davis and
Zosia Michalak.
Next up for the Cardinals is the NBL singles tournament this Thursday and Friday with
Kaylin Smith and Liz Negri representing the Cardinals against the top 16 players in the league followed by the NBL doubles tournament next week with the doubles teams representatives still to be determined. The Cardinals are hoping for an at-large bid for the NCS team competition which begins Nov. 8th.
