Dublin, Calif- It was an historic weekend for the Newman Track and Field team, as four Newman track and field athletes advanced to the 104th CIF State Championship meet next week in Clovis, having qualified in their respective events at the NCS Meet of Champions at Dublin High School over the weekend.
Moving on to the state championship meet at Clovis High School on May 24-25 will be seniors Jake Joerger in the shot put (1st, 59-02) and discus (2nd,159-07), Santi Adan in the discus (1st, 170-00), and Liam Currie in the 400 meters (2nd, 49.32), and sophomore Devon Bertoli in the shot put (2nd, 55-01.50). Curry wil run in Heat One of the 400M prelims. The top finisher in each of the 3 heats will advance, plus the next 6 best times .
In the team competition, out of 155 participating schools, Newman placed second overall with 44 points, behind only champion De La Salle (53).
In the girl's discus competition, sophomore Kaylin Suacci earned a spot on the medal podium by placing 5th (110-00).
