Tessa Taylor serves for the Cardinals
After dropping a long, hard fought first set on the road 27-29, the Cardinals made some adjustments and won the next 3 to defeat Carrillo 3-1. The momentum shifted big time in the second set as Newman won 25-15. The Pumas continued to challenge CN and pushed hard in the third set but Newman won again 25-23.
"We were Challenged by Carrillo both physically and mentally tonight," Said Head Coach Daryl Kapis after the Victory. "I am really happy how we responded after losing the first set."
The Cardinals pulled away in the final set and won by 9. The win gives Newman an amazing 19-1 record on the year and their second league win in as many games.
Julia Waller led the way offensively with 19 kills and 28 assists, while
Kimberly Wilson had 13 kills and 17 assists.
Caroline Dougherty led the defense with 14 digs.
All-around solid team play and defense have become the hall mark of this team as they have now won 19 in a row. Newman looks to extend the streak this Saturday at the Sonoma Valley Tournament before taking on Santa Rosa and Montgomery next week.
