With the air conditioning on the fritz and 100 degrees outside in Ukiah the gym was hot to say the least.   Fortunately for the Cardinals they were able to deal with the elements,a long drive,  a home crowd, and a very good defensive Ukiah team on way to a 26-24, 20-25, 23-25, 25-16, and improving their record to 1-1 on the young season.

Cardinal Newman was led by Sophomore Julia Waller who finished the night with 17 kills and two aces, followed by  Senior Ali Farquhar who finished with 15 kills and 5 Aces on the night.

Leading the charge in the setting department was Brianna Birk who had 45 assists on the night, and an astounding eight aces on the night.

"The entire team had great spirit throughout the entire match and helped us deal with all the challenges of being on the road".  "I was really pleased with how they responded on the night, and we were fortunate enough to play everyone that was healthy", commented Head Coach Daryl Kapis.

The Cardinal hit the road again this Saturday as they play in a tournament at Novato High School with their first match starting around 9:30 AM.
