Pinole, Ca - The Cardinal Newman Girls basketball squad won over perennial powerhouse Bishop O' Dowd 81-65, on Saturday.  In a rematch of last years NCS Open Division game, Newman jumped out to the early lead with hot shooting from beyond the arc.  Abbie Mullins and Kate Schat were connecting on multiple 3's that vaulted CN to a 20 point halftime.

Much like last seasons sectional battle, O'Dowd would come back.  Newman got into foul trouble and the lead was cut to 8.  But the Cardinals would not fold.  Regaining their composure and hitting some key shots down the stretch Newman pulled away and won by 16.

Schat ended the game with 20 points, while Mullins was named Player of the Game with a team high 22, including 6 3's.

The Cardinals are now set to host The Cardinal Newman Classic this week, with some of the top teams in all of NorCal coming to face off in a showcase format.
