San Diego, Ca- For the second day in a row the Cardinal Newman Girls Basketball team used tough defense and hot outside shooting to win big in San Diego. This time the Bonita Bearcats were in the firing line, as the Cardinals pulled off a 56-19 win.

The defense was relentless, determined to hold the Bearcats offense in check.  Abbie Mullins led the scoring once again with 15 points on the day, all coming in the first half.  Each of her 5 field goals were from beyond the arc.  Kate Schat chipped in 13 points, hitting 3 threes and Reese Searcy finished with 8.

The defense was the big story however, amassing 18 steals led by Julia Brunetti with 5 takeaways.  Brunetti also led the team with 5 assists.

Tomorrow the it's a 3:00 o'clock matinee as the Cardinals take on Peninsula High at El Capitan.
